Yes, you can burn to CD, but it's a pain in the arse and you lose all your metadata. I wouldn't like to buy a load of music and then have to do that.
And the DRM stripping options are all of dubious legality and as you say, not straightforward. I put this post up for the people who don't know DRM exists - they're not the people who will strip DRM.
