Help needed understanding scam
Aug. 21st, 2001 05:26 pmScam is here (bounce used 'cos their HTML suggests they're scanning referer logs).
What's up? Current guesses:
2/1 It turns out to be some sort of pyramid scheme.
4/1 They ask you for some sort of "transfer fee" (see the Nigerian bank swindles).
8/1 It's a bizarre in-joke only two people in the world get.
20/1 They're just harvesting email addresses for spam.
999,999,999/1 The (unnamed, hmmm) oil companies genuinely want to give you $100,000 for doing fuck-all, but strangely only have a Freeserve members web page to do it with.
I want to know because I'm worried a co-worker may be taken in (I'm sure you can guess which one...)
