You can remove the schools bit from your info page in the privacy options at the bottom of the manage info page - then you never even have to see the word...
Although it is interesting to have a look and see ...which people born in 1984 etc. went to the same schools as you did (http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=spiked_halo) - (the only school I don't have in common with this person is University of Kent)

Yeah, I should talk. I went all the way back to when I moved to England years ago. Sorry. But I was shocked to learn that some of those teachers I had still work in the same schools I went to.
