While preparing for the DIY Disco I discovered that whereas I thought:

* My CD burner does not work in Linux
* My CD burner works in Windows

the state of affairs is actually closer to:

* My CD burner produces error messages in Linux
* My CD burner does not produce error messages in Windows

Sigh. Can anyone recommend a manufacturer of cheap reliable CD burners?

At least my confidence in Mr Torvalds is restored.

The media is not cheap, and the price of both the drive and the media can only come down. I also can't remember which of the incompatible DVD writer formats does what.

ATAPI or SCSI? I've a Teac 4x SCSI lying around.

Computer Exchange are good if you don't want the latest drives - the 12 month warranty is worth most of their price.
