Cerys Catatonia sang "Every day, when I wake up, I thank the lord I'm Welsh".

Well, I'm not Welsh, but I wake up thankful I'm
  • An atheist
  • Alive in the twenty-first century
  • Generally perverted (SM/Tranny/Poly etc.)
What entirely-partisan things do you wake up thankful for?

(Variations on my last bullet point are too easy and do not count. So ner.)

- That I'm a girl. (Not that not being a girl is bad, but I like being one a lot.)
- Holly.
- Any good things that will be happening that day (down to and including breakfast and the chance to read books and listen to Leonard Cohen on the way to work)

Depends on who/when/where I wake up, but it tends to go like this -
*wake up*
- Hurray I'm not dead
- Hurray it's only X days till the weekend OR
- Hurray it *is* the weekend
- Hurray I'm not miserable in my job
- Hurray for housemates/freinds/family
- Hurray for [livejournal.com profile] djm4 OR
- Hurray, look it's [livejournal.com profile] djm4 in my bed
- Mmmmmmmmboobs

In no particular order

My lovely housemates
Being employed
Living in an age and country with toilets, plumbing, sewerage, and readily available cheap fresh clean water (that really would, for me, be the worst thing about going back in time)
That I'm a bloke
My good health
My pals
My nephews and nieces
Other family
That Doctor Who is back

* That I'm not depressed and/or in the Sun today (those too kinda go together)
* That I live in London close to so many friends
* That I know about mindfulness and existentialism stuff
* That I like my bod
* That I'm loved and love
(and the thing that doesn't count natch)

I thank the ******* I'm:

* Queer
* British Asian
* Foodie
* Living in a country with a half-decent welfare system. It's ancient, complicated and stressful and could be about 300% better, but it at least exists in a form that is vaguely workable.
* Time-rich (would like to be a little less cash-poor, but I've done the opposite and I'm damn glad that I'm on this side of the fence!)
* As others say above re living in the incredibly priveliged corner of the world.
* Living in Brighton, particuarly as now seems to be a potentially really exciting time to be here for various reasons
* Going back to berlin in July
* Surrounded by support and love.

ooh! and if we're being utterly partisan and/or bloodyminded:

* of a mixed class background (which is in my head is somewhat, but not totally analagous to someone being mixed-race, or my British Asianness. Basically, I mean, coming from/having lived in a number of differntly-accented spaces, in terms of class.)

lost my job anyway along with everyone else and the jobs were moved to Shanghi China

not dating the guys who turned out not only not friendly but also emotionally abusive and draining, a most unhealthy combination

thinking about using my severance pay to fund a vaction in London to visit my friends there

That my health is manageable allowing me to hold a 40hr/week job without completely falling to bits.

I just about earn enough to support myself and partner so we can have a living/working arrangement that suits us.

I have Internet access again that works properly.

That I live in a country where I can be generically out as bi, my workplace is friendly to diversity so I don't have to be in the closet at work.
