Plusnet suck
Your username: macmullen Dear Mr Simon MacMullen, Your peak-time usage for this billing month has now exceeded your 15GB allowance.
The highest level of restrictions will now apply to your connection. Large file downloads, through Usenet, peer-to-peer, and other file sharing applications will be blocked until the end of the current billing month. Don't worry, you'll still get broadband speeds for most activities such as browsing, emails, and gaming.
Of course, when I signed up to this, there was no 15GB "allowance". Plusnet unilaterally migrated me from 2Mbit unlimited to 8Mbit with a fairly small limit.
So, can anyone recommend an ADSL provider that doesn't suck, for when we move house? They would need to be able to provide a static IP address.

They've been very good to me. One time there was a BT fault (not Zen) not only did they chase BT, hound them till they fixed it, they also rang up my mobile phone to let me know it'd be fixed when i get home.
They get a 'Good Work Fella' Award from me. :)

I can't remember if we got a different modem, or a powered hub, but it was easy enough to sort out.

I've got plusnet myself, and that's the one thing I don't like either. I run all my really downloads to run after midnight, but I'm still averaging a couple of hundred meg/day with browsing, and what I do download.

Dont go with VIRGIN whatever you do, I have a 8mb/s a connect and I get the download speed of a 1.8mb/s.
BT so far are looking to be the best for cost/speed wise.
Pipex are also quite good.

I dunno about static IP addresses (whassat?) but I started using Bulldog when I moved a few months ago and have no complaints.
Humm
I'm with PlusNet, and I've had a few emails of warning, but just to put me on level 1 of bandwidth throttling, but I've got a good 30Gb at least?
Odd!
(If using Bittorrent apps, do use encryption on the transport and that gets past the p2p throttling by the way)
Re: Humm
Thanks for the tip, bt is indeed the "problem". Now to look up how to do that in bittornado.
Re: Humm
Any BT sites you'd care to recommend?
:-)
But I know what you mean with the frustration of the bandwidth cap, but the problem is that every ISP will introduce it, or has, and have just put it in the really really fine print. I was a bit annoyed at it, but my annoyance has lessened as they gave me DSLMax in return... Although it does mean I download more faster!! (doh)
Re: Humm
The only BT site I use is PureTNA (NSFW).

I'm not happy, especially as the login details for contacting them don't work...
